BT Rescue Canada
A BTRC Christmas Story

You come in from the cold and shut your door
You feel the warmth
You smell the fresh baking that you made this morning
You laugh as your crazy Bostons race each other to be the first to greet you
You see the feather on the floor
You look for what pillow was destroyed
You scold them but you don't mind too much
You think once a Boston, always a Boston
You look at your Christmas tree and admire the lights, and ornaments
You look at the presents underneath
You smile
You are almost done your shopping
You curl up in front of your fire place
Your bostons worm their way under your blanket
Your eyes slowly close as you listen to their rythmic snores

Not too far away another door is shut

He is cold
He is scared
He smells so many unfamiliar dogs
he begins to shake
He hears barking, so much barking
He finds the small blanket that is his only relief from the cement floor
He wonders what is happening and where are the people he knows
He knows that they never paid too much attention to him but they were
familiar
He knew their smell
He cannot smell them in this place
He sees a stranger enter
He watches the stranger approach him
He tries to hide in the corner but that does not keep the stranger from
the coming
He is scared he will be hurt...so many smells....so much noise...who is
this person
His ears go down
He cowers, as the human reaches for him
He needs to protect himself
He bites
He is in a different room.
He is held down as he tries to get away.
He tries to ask them what is happening. Can't they see it in his eyes?
He is scared
He is a good boy
He feels a poke and yelps
He feels sleepy
His eyes close never to open again.

I know the Christmas season is coming and we are all busy. Family,
friends, get togethers, trips even. I know we have our own obligations,
our own dogs... our own stresses. But somewhere not to far from you a
Boston may take his last breath. May never be able to know love, to curl
up under a blanket, to have good food everyday, to greet someone at the
door who is happy to see him. Who was never given a chance to show what
a good boy he is. Who could have had years and now will only have seconds.

Please help BTRC help them. Please. Lets give them another chance at
life. It may not be perfect but I can promise it will be rewarding.

You curl up under the blanket for your next nap...maybe one more snore
joins the melody.
